WE’LL ALL SLEEP AND BATH HERE!
MADINGINDAWO from Lehae and Freedom in the south of Joburg joined forces to deliver their memorandum to Luthuli House yesterday.
The residents’ organisations threatened to sleep and bath outside Luthuli House on Sunday if they don’t get a response.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Thabang Makhele, spokesman for the residents, said: “We were promised houses and some applied in 1996 but we still find ourselves living in backrooms and shacks.”
He said the people who occupied the 24 houses in Lehae on Friday did it out of frustration and desperation.
“Those 51 houses were built two years ago, but to this day only 26 are complete. The rest are without roofs, windows or doors.
“What is frustrating is that a budget of R653 million was allocated for this project.”
The memorandum was received by Babylon Xekethwane from the office of the deputy secretary-general.
